BISE Multan was build under the West Pakistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (Multan & Sargodha) Ordinance, 1968 out of Lahore Board. Now, it is under the supervision of Punjab Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act, 1976.
Multan Board Construction:
Multan Board was established on 30th march 1968. It was build under the ordinance of Government of West Pakistan, passed by the Assembly of Pakistan on 24 may and camp office of Multan board started working in the Government Central Training college Lahore, on the mid June and then shifted to Multan headquarter. In the very beginning, Quetta, Bahawalpur, Kallat, Multan and DG khan was included in this board. However, in 1968, Quetta and Kallat were separated. In 1978, Bahawalpur board also started working separately. In 1982, DG khan board also separated from Multan board. Now board of intermediate & secondary education is working in almost every district.

BISE Multan has 15 members on the board of Governors including the Chairman. From them few are ex-officials and others selected as per provisions of the Act. The board is ultimate authority in making rules for it. It does not get any grant-in-aid or any donation from the government or other agency. It has to generate its own funds through the examinations and other fees. The board is autonomous body and Govt. of the Punjab is its controlling authority. The chairman, Secretary Controller of Examinations, audit Officer and DPE are appointed by the Controlling Authority on deputation normally for a period of 3 years. Other officers and staffs in BS-16 and above are appointed by the Governors, in BS-5 to BS-15 by the Chairman and in BS-1 to BS-4 by the secretary.
The main functions of the boards are as under: To hold and conduct examinations pertaining to Intermediate Education, Secondary Education, Pakistani and Classical Languages and other such examinations as determined by the Govt. to accord, refuse or withdraw recognition to the Educational Institutions. To lay down conditions for appointment to various examinations held by the board. To grant certificates and diplomas to the successful candidates.
To fix, demand and receive fee as may be prescribed by. To award scholarships, medals and prizes to position holders. To organize and promote extra mural activities. To create posts and appoint such staff as may be considered necessary for the purpose of its functions; if a post in Bs-17 or above, shall be created with a prior approval of the Controlling Authority. To make provision for building’s premises, furniture, apparatus, books and other means required for carrying out the purposes of the Act. Multan, Khanewal, vehari and lodhran districts are jurisdiction of Board of Intermediate & Secondary education Multan.
The students belonging to these areas have to apply for their matric or Intermediate level examinations to BISE Multan. Organizational setup of board is Chairman than controller, secretary and O.C.P are under of chairman. Secretary functions included inquiry, research, finance and administration. Controller functions are computer section, matriculation, intermediate, verification cell, secrecy and conduct handling.
