Laptop distribution in Karachi UniversityUnder the Prime Minister Laptop scheme, the Karachi University has started laptop distribution to the students of M.Phil and PhD. This is the second phase of laptop distribution under the PM laptop scheme. In the ceremony, 107 laptops were given to selected students by chief guest. It is also conveyed to the students that remaining laptops of the phase 2 will be given by the admissions committee and by the student’s affairs office in coming days.
The ceremony was held at the Dr AQ Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering in Karachi University. The vice chancellor of the university himself graced the ceremony along with the operations and planning member of HEC Dr. Ghulam Raza Bhatti. The chief guest distributed laptops among the selected lot of students.
Under the second scheme of laptop distribution, the distribution was started last year in the month of November and KU vice chancellor said while addressing the ceremony that total 1153 students have applied for the laptop and 750 have been selected by the HEC for the laptop award. On the significance of scheme, Dr. Qaiser said that it’s a great gift of knowledge for the youth and for their better future. He added that students of these days are lucky to be a part of this digital age. He advised them and said that you can prosper in the field of education and research if you have the keys of information technology in your hands.
The operation and planning member of HEC represented the HEC in the ceremony and said that till now we have distributed 0.6 million laptops under the scheme and next year, we would distribute more 0.5 million laptops among students. In the budget of 2016-17, the government of the Punjab has also allocated four billion rupees for the distribution of laptops. While the PM laptop scheme is diverse in nature as it includes all the universities of the country in its sphere.
Some critics say that government should use these funds for the basic facilitates in schools and for the research and innovation in universities. However, on the other hand, the defenders say that through this, youth is equipped with the information technology and they can get more knowledge about the world. The Punjab government from last many years is distributing the laptops and till now million of university students have given this award.
The Punjab government is also working on plan to distribute educational tabs among students and teachers in public schools to induce the concept of innovative learning but the complete policy of this project is still in making. However as a whole, it is a good project otherwise these funds will go in vain through allocation in the name of road or bridge construction.
